In the April 14, 1934 issue of THE TWIG, there is an article about class traditions. According to the article, during their junior year, a class would “select a class sweater or jacket on which they wear their class numerals.” The tradition seems to have started and ended in the 1930s, reappeared briefly after World War II, and then re-reappeared in 1954, but again only for a few years. In the Archives at Campbell Carlyle Library, there is an example of the blazer selected by three classes: 1935, 1954, and 1957.
