Meredith Mentors Alumna Profile: Onisha Walker, ’14
Onisha Walker, ’14, works as an interior designer in Raleigh, N.C. After graduating from Meredith, she received a Master of Fine Arts from New York School of Interior Design. Her interests vary from working out to traveling and astrology, but honestly it really just depends on the day. Onisha believes in change and that the uncomfortable is what makes you grow as a person.
Meredith Mentors: What do you love most about your job? What excites you about starting a new day?
I love that I can bring my strengths to the table. For a creative person, I am also extremely left-brained, so I love planning my day strategically and outlining what I would like to achieve by the end of the day. I am super Type A.
MM: Are you still in touch with any of your former faculty members? Can you share how our faculty impacted your student experience?
Dr. Martha Burpitt was the professor that wrote one of my letters of recommendation that helped me get into graduate school. She was always kind to me and treated me like I mattered just as much as anyone else.
MM: As you have progressed through your career, what have you learned along the way?
Your self-worth is the most important. Believe in yourself, even if no one else does.
MM: What are you most excited about at this time in your life?
I am most excited about becoming comfortable with the woman that I have built myself into. It has been a long, hard, and lonely road at times but I am living my best life, having a good time, and being the best person I can be!
MM: For our seniors as well as our new graduates, can you share any hiring and interview tips?
I would say look good, feel good, and know your stuff. Confidence goes a long way in this world.
