Hailing from Banjul, Gambia, Broyhill Fellow Marie Johnson, ’20, says Meredith helped align her strengths with her career path.
“Through specialized classes, programs, and events, Meredith helped build the foundation that is necessary for me to be career-ready and successful,” she said.
As a participant in the Accelerated MBA 4+1 program, Marie has the opportunity to graduate with a master of business administration in the spring of 2021. This May, she will receive her undergraduate degree in business administration and fashion merchandising and design with a minor in finance. Marie is looking forward to her her next challenge: a full-time position with Lenovo.
“After weighing my options with offers from Goldman Sachs and Lenovo, I accepted a position as an LASR (Lenovo Accelerated Sales Rotation) Associate. I will be starting my position shortly after graduation in June 2020.
By taking advantage of the Office of Career Planning, Marie was connected with several opportunities to build on the skills and knowledge she gained in the classroom. She has held three off-campus internships, two of which were with Eton Solutions, a technology and services provider in Raleigh.
Marie’s third internship was with Credit Suisse, where she learned how to put her strengths into action. “From turning deliverables, to communication with management and my peers, to leveraging curiosity to gain more insight on topics, I was able to further develop and understand my strengths,” said Marie.
Marie credits Meredith, specifically the StrongPointsⓇ program, for playing a large role in preparing her for these internships. “Through StrongPoints, I was able to learn how I can leverage my strengths to make me a well-rounded intern,” she said. Marie is also a StrongPoints ambassador, one of the many leadership roles she holds on campus.
“Being the leader of several organizations, I have gained experiences that have shaped and improved my time at Meredith,” she said. Planning, communicating, budgeting, teamwork – these are just a few of the skills Marie says she has learned through student leadership and campus involvement.
“Meredith has helped me gain connections, build confidence, and shown me that I can do anything I set I mind to,” she said.
