In the 1920s, beanies – small, close-fitting caps – were required freshmen wear at many colleges and universities. In 1929, Martha Abernathy was president of the Class of 1933, and was charmed with the caps students were wearing at N.C. State. She designed this blue wool beanie for her classmates, but as far as we know, it was the first and last class to attempt this tradition.
A special THANK YOU to Janice Sniker in the College Archives for her assistance in making these posts possible!
I am so glad that the class of 1957 did not have a Class Beanie!
