It’s always entertaining to look back at Meredith College rules and how they have evolved over the years! This photo shows the point system of the Room Check System in place from 1964 until 1969. Though this particular system wasn’t in place for long there were other rules to follow. One of our archivists even said “It gave me a headache just thinking about all these rules!” while she was researching information for this particular photo.
We’d love to hear your stories about the different rules in place while you were a student. Share with us in the comments below.
I was at Meredith from 1963-67, and I loved room checks. Being a neat freak, I got the highest marks every single time! Once, when I was away for the weekend, my suite mates messed up the room, leaving clothes hanging out of drawers, bed a mess, furniture out of place, and even trash dumped onto the floor. Somehow they had gotten hold of one of the grade slips and had filled it out with the lowest possible points and a note of disappointment from Ms Dandridge. I wasn’t fooled into thinking it was real, but it did give us all a good laugh (and it took me quite a while to clean up the mess, but of course I enjoyed that part.)
