Meredith Memories from the Class of 1965

Submitted by: Jessica Adams Creech ’65

Our journey together started fifty-four years ago in the fall of 1961 when we met and became close friends as young girls who just happened to be housed on 4th floor Stringfield Hall. During our 4 years at Meredith we somehow ended up living on the same hall with each other. By our senior year we wanted some way to identify ourselves as life-long friends. That’s when we became the FTTTT – Faithful Ten Through Thick and Thin. Even though our lives after college took different paths – raising our families and surviving all the joys, trials and changes that life brought us – we remained friends.

Over the years we mostly kept in touch with each other in some way. At first it was weddings and then birth announcements, Christmas cards, calls, birthday cards, visits, then kids’ weddings, grandchild birth announcements, occasional travels together, and many of us visited together at class reunions. But it took the death of one of our friends, Tomilee Fulk Evans ’65, in 2009 for us to make the commitment to see each other on a regular basis – that meant a yearly trip to the beach!

After our 45th reunion in 2010, the nine of us gathered at the Butler Cottage at Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms outside Charleston for a wonderfully relaxing, catching up, eating, talking and giggling week. Now it’s our yearly tradition! There is always lots of laughter, and some crying, but always happiness to be together. It is a time of reflection and enjoying who each of us had grown to be.

We now get together (or as many as can make it) each spring for a week of just being with our long-time and Faithful Friends. We plan to do this for as long as any two of us are able to travel. We thank God for putting us in the right place at the right time with the right people. And thank you Meredith for bringing us together!
