Johnstone has been a member of Meredith’s faculty since 2002. She is on sabbatical this semester to focus on her Landfill Dogs project. In addition to her own project, she has also taught a Meredith summer class called “Who Let the Dogs Out?” with a similar focus. Students in the six-week course learn photography skills that they use to highlight animals at the Wake County Animal Center, which receives approximately 17,000 surrendered animals annually. The primary goal of the class is to help these animals find permanent homes.
