This coming Sunday will mark the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In this image, a student can be seen reading notes of love, support and encouragement on a banner that hung in the Cate Center. This banner was later removed and sent to NYC.

The Winter 2002 Meredith Magazine told the story of Meredith’s response to the terrorist attacks in their article titled, “Meredith Unites in Response to September 11 Tragedy”:
“Immediately following the attacks, Meghan Griffith, ’04, and Christy Sanderson, ’01, along with members of the Meredith Service Council, organized a campus fundraising campaign called “On Wings of Hope.” The campaign raised money for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to benefit the victims in New York and in Washington, D.C. Since September 13, Griffith and Sanderson led student efforts to make commemorative felt star pins to be worn in memory of the victims and in support of survivors and rescue workers. The stars were sold for a minimum donation of $2.”
In addition to benefiting the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, On Wings of Hope also sponsored the creation of a commemorative quilt to be donated to Marymount College, Meredith’s sister college in located in Manhattan. Many of Marymount’s students and faculty lost friends and family in the attacks.
