Sonia Nazario, author of “Enrique’s Journey,” Meredith’s 2011 Summer Reading Program (SRP) selection, will present a lecture on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. Tickets are required for this event, which is free and open to the public.
Tickets will be available to Meredith students, faculty and staff in the Jones Auditorium lobby beginning at 3 p.m. on the day of the event and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Beginning at 6 p.m., any remaining tickets will be available to members of the public. Once the auditorium is full, guests will be invited to view the lecture from Jones Chapel.
A reception will be held following the lecture in the Johnson Hall Rotunda. This reception is open to all guests.
“Enrique’s Journey,” the story of a young Honduran boy’s perilous quest to locate his mother in the United States, began as a Pulitzer Prize-winning story for The Los Angeles Times. The article won more than a dozen awards, among them the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing, the George Polk Award for International Reporting, the Grand Prize of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Guillermo Martinez-Marquez Award for Overall Excellence.
Nazario has more than 20 years of experience reporting and writing about social issues. She began her career at the Wall Street Journal, where she reported from four bureaus: New York, Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles. In 1993, she joined the Los Angeles Times.
